We’ve all witnessed the exodus of migrant workers from our cities to villages. At Hindustan Unilever, our first response was to provide food aid and ensure their safe passage back home. But a crisis of unemployment awaited them as they reached home. So we graduated our efforts from saving lives to rebuilding lives as well. In partnership with NGO partners like PRADAN, we are helping returning migrants and landless farmers to get job cards and access work in their villages. They are now building water conservation structures through the government’s flagship program, MGNREGA. India will recover from COVID’s aftermath through partnerships with government, civil society organisations and the private sector. Together, we can rebuild!
