“Promoting Sustainable Livelihood Practices and Strengthening Livelihood Portfolio through water efficient agricultural practices in Eastern Region of Uttar Pradesh”
People's Action for National Integration (PANI) – a state level Non-Government Development Organisation has been addressing social and economic poverty and striving for changing socio-economic scenario in eastern region of Uttar Pradesh, India since 1989. PANI promotes active participation of poor people in local governance system thereby enabling them access their good and services due to them under development programmes. PANI is one of the leading state level development organizations of Uttar Pradesh, India; currently working in 18 districts of eastern UP (both directly and with network partners). It was founded in 1986 by some prominent and devoted social workers from Gandhian background and ideology of integrated development and registered in 1989. It promotes integrated and participatory approach for community empowerment focusing on principles of sustained and holistic development, social justice and equality. Thematic areas on which the organisation works are (i) women empowerment and local governance; (ii) community health and sanitation (iii) integrated child development (iv) livelihood and (v) climate change and disaster risk reduction.
The organisation is associated with several state, national and international alliances including U.P. Voluntary Action Network; Association of Voluntary Agencies for Rural Development (AVARD), New Delhi; Voluntary Action Network of India (VANI); South Asian Network for Social and Agricultural Development (SANSAD), New Delhi; International Task Force for Rural Poor, London; The Commonwealth Foundation, UK; Dignity International; Malaysia.
The organisation has been felicitated for its contribution including NABARD, Lucknow (for 4 years from 2000 to 2004 for SHG Promotion and Bank Linkages in U.P.); Asian NGOs Coalition (ANGOC), Manila, Phillipines in 2005 for ’Promoting Rural Poor Organisations’; District Magistrate, Barabanki, Government of Uttar Pradesh for ’Flood Relief Programme in Puredelai Block, Barabanki’; on maternal and child health by CARE and Government of Uttar Pradesh in 2001 and Acharya Narendra Dev University for Agriculture and Technology in 2007 and 2012.
