“COMMUNITY-LED SUSTAINABLEMANAGEMENT OF WATER RESOURCE FORPROMOTION OF LIVELIHOODS AND SECURED NATURAL RESOURCE BASE”
MYRADA has been engaged in rural development for over 4 decades and has been extensively involved in building institutions of the poor, management of natural resources, livelihood promotions, health and education. MYRADA’s strength lies in its ability to ensure the participation of the stakeholder community in the effective implementation of the programmes. Over the years, MYRADA has received funding from Indian as well as International donors for the implementation of several development projects/programmes in the 3 south Indian states of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Tamilnadu.
In the past, MYRADA’s partnership for development projects has been mostly with other likeminded NGO’s or the government. There has been a paradigm shift in the last few years where in Myrada has also started partnering with private or corporate donors. Myrada believes that this partnership will lead to better livelihood options for the poor in several non-farm based activities also.
The project or programme gets more impetus if the private or corporate donor expresses interest in funding a farm based project along with the support to farm or off-farm livelihood activities for the poor. This, Myrada believes will be a win-win situation for all in the long run.
The project which has been implemented in 5 selected districts of Karnataka by MYRADA is being funded by Hindustan Unilever Foundation (HUF) a section 25 company and the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD). The duration of the project is 4 years and the project’s aim is to develop the selected watersheds encompassing natural resources, livestock and the livelihood of the people through a community-led participatory method.
